Verizon's Thinkfinity.org recently hosted a special Spotlight Session at the National Educational Computing Conference in San Antonio to focus on the needs of the 21st Century Learner. Thinkfinity Champions author Peter Reynolds and actor Eric Close led participants through the session to describe the characteristics of a 21st Century learner. Before a crowd of more than 200 leaders in the field of education, Verizon Foundation President Patrick Gaston announced plans to invest $1.2 million in grants to provide training and free online resources to teachers in 17 states through Thinkfinity.org.
Gaston made the announcement Wednesday during a celebration of American Education Week at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Verizon President Patrick Gaston had the honor of introducing noted author Amy Tan as the keynote speaker at the National Council of Teachers of English annual conference.
Gaston, speaking on the partnership between NCTE and the Verizon Foundation said "Our partnership was founded on our shared belief that literacy is the foundational skill that lifts people and allows them to be free — free to learn and free to take their place in society."
